CD-DVD Labels – Detailed Description
Burning CDs and DVDs on a home DVD writer is easy, but you need good-quality printable CD labels to give them a professional look. You can print CD labels on a home inkjet, but that gets expensive and time-consuming when you need CD sticker printing in bulk. A home inkjet also can’t match a digital press for sharpness and quality.
CD Sticker Printing at Orchid Digitals
We used to print personalised CD and DVD labels, die-punched from mirrorcote glossy sticker paper. Their advantages were:
- Printed on a digital press, not an inkjet
- A sharp, glossy finish
- Die-punched labels: you just peel and paste
- Inner and outer circles sized to cover as much of the disc as possible
Design Constraints for CD-DVD Label Printing
Keep these points in mind when designing printable CD labels. Leave enough bleed at the edges of the outer and inner circles. These are the design dimensions for a CD label of 120 mm (4.72 in) diameter:
- Extend the artwork to an outer circle of 123 mm diameter, which gives about 1.5 mm of bleed beyond the edge of the disc
- Cover the whole circle with a colour fill or an image
- Keep important matter away from the centre, because that area is punched out of the label
- Place text, logos and other matter in the band between 30 mm and 115 mm diameter
