How Are Fridge Magnets Made?

Magnetic stickers are made of two important components:

Printed Vinyl Top Layer

The top of the magnetic sticker is made of a sheet of vinyl. Your design gets printed on this vinyl material which is then pasted on the base magnetic layer.

The print on top is also given a protective coat of matt lamination. Laminating a print increases its life and helps protect the images from dust, scratches and water damage.

In addition to the plain matt finish, you can also choose textured vinyl prints like linen and canvas textures to give the fridge magnets a more premium look and feel.

Magnetic Base

The base of the photo magnets is made using a flexible poly-magnetic sheet. The printable vinyl discussed above is pasted onto this sheet.

At Orchid Digitals, we use a very heavy duty 1.5 mm thick sheet of magnet. Our competitors typically use magnetic sheets of only 0.5 mm thickness.

Obviously, our thicker magnetic sheet will have more adhering power. Our 1.5 mm thick photo magnets are very stable, stick strongly to any metallic surface, and are less prone to accidental displacement.

How Much Do Custom Printed Magnets Cost?

At Orchid Digitals, we do not create individual magnets but rather group multiple copies of the same on large-sized sheets.

And so, instead of a single fridge magnet, we quote for a price for a larger sheet, of one square foot.

One square foot sheet of magnetic stickers costs ₹ 500.00 + 18% GST. Once we receive your design, we check how many of the same fit on this sheet and work out the per piece cost.

Obviously, with a smaller design, more copies of the same will fit in one sheet. And the higher this yield per sheet, the lesser its per piece price.

How to Determine the Cost per Magnet of Your Specific Design?

As mentioned above, magnet prices are quoted per square foot. But this area is most probably larger than your small-sized magnet.

So how do you figure out the per piece cost of your individual magnet piece?

This process involves a little bit of reverse calculation. First, figure out how many individual pieces labels fit in an area of 12 inches width * 12 inches height.

Let’s suppose that we have a magnetic sticker artwork of size 2 inches * 3 inches.

Six columns of 2 inches width, fit on a 12 X 12-inch sized sheet. Similarly, four rows of 3 inches height fit in the same. Multiplying the number of rows with the number of columns gives us the total number of copies that one can print in our 1 square foot sized sheet.

6 columns * 4 rows = 24 individual magnetic prints.

And since the cost of one large size sheet is 450, our per piece cost works out to:

450 / 24 = Rs.18.75 plus taxes

Minimum Order Quantity

Magnets are not individually produced. They are processed on large-sized rolls having 3, 4 and even 5 feet. So please consider a minimum order quantity / M.O.Q. of 10 square feet while calculating your budget.
