My name is Mitesh Sanghani. I started Orchid Digitals in 2005 — with one employee, one small second-hand printer, and a lot of conviction that digital printing in Pune was about to take off.
Before Orchid, I wore many hats. I worked in finance, helped my father in the paper business, taught IT, worked at a paper mill in Saharanpur, and even washed cars briefly at a garage in Mumbai. It was stints at a packaging unit and an offset press in Pune that planted the seed of this business.
“Digital printing in India was fairly nascent at the dawn of the millennium — and I felt making my mark here should be fairly easy. I was both right and wrong.”
Running a digital print bureau demands a rare mix: printing technology know-how, computer skills, design sensibility, and the willingness to maintain complex equipment. I had some of these. The rest, I learned on the fly. And Orchid grew with every lesson.
The journey of Orchid Digitals (and with it, my own) has gone through several important milestones that got us where we are today. Let me take you on a quick stroll through this long and eventful journey that changed the City of Poona, and with it, Orchid Digitals and me.
