A backlit acrylic logo board for SAEE, a builder: letters set into the plate

The brief

An office logo board is the first thing a visitor reads at the door. For a builder it also says something about how carefully they build. SAEE wanted a compact board that looks crisp in daylight and glows when it is switched on, with the logo and the tagline each standing out in its own way.

What we made

The base is a 3 mm white acrylic plate with the logo cut out of it, so each letter has its own opening.

The SAEE letters are cut from 8 mm blue acrylic. 3 mm of each letter sits inside its opening in the plate and the other 5 mm stands proud, so from the side the logo reads as raised 3D letters, not a sticker.

Under the plate we built a box that holds the LEDs. When they are on, the light comes up through the blue acrylic, so the logo glows from its face and from its 5 mm sides.

The tagline, BUILD PERFECTION, is capped with black acrylic. The light escapes only around its edges, so the line stays sharp and black with a white glow around it.

The wall was drilled to the plate’s pattern and the board went up on standard mounts with steel stud caps at the four corners.
