A 2D acrylic light box logo sign for Cemindia Projects’ Pune Metro site office

A lit logo sign with a perfectly flat face: Cemindia’s red and white logo printed on backlit vinyl, pasted on 3 mm acrylic and lit edge to edge by rows of LED modules, with white acrylic sides that glow too. Made in our Pune studio for the reception of Cemindia Projects’ site office on the Pune Metro Rail Project.

The brief

Cemindia Projects wanted its logo on the reception wall of its Pune Metro Rail Project site office: bright enough to stand out, clean enough to look premium, and with the logo exactly as it is, down to the trademark sign and the Since 1931 band.

What we made

We built it as a 2D acrylic light box. “2D” means the face is completely flat: nothing stands up from it. The box still has depth, about 2.5 inches, and that space is what lets the whole face glow evenly.

The logo, the red background, the trademark sign and the Since 1931 band are printed on backlit vinyl on our wide-format printer and pasted on a 3 mm acrylic face. Because it is a print, every colour and every small detail of the logo comes out exactly as designed.

Behind the face sits an ACP tray lined with rows of LED modules (Ares modules on a UNI power supply). We pack the tray with hundreds of LEDs, so the face glows bright and even, with no dark patches between the rows.

The sides are strips of 3 mm white acrylic, so they glow too: the board reads from the front and from the side.

It goes up in two parts. The ACP tray, with a raised lip about 1 inch high all round, is drilled to the wall first. Then the acrylic lid (the face and its 2.5 inch side skirt) goes over the tray, covering the lip, and is screwed to the lip from the sides. The cable comes in through the wall behind, so no wiring shows.

The reception board is 47 x 23 inches. Before making it we showed Cemindia how it would look on their reception wall by day and by night, on a photo of the room.

For the same site office we also made a 72 x 11.5 inch board for the front of the shed, reading Pune Metro Rail Project, Cemindia Projects Limited.

The reception light box took about a week to make. The photos at the end show it fitted on the reception wall, and the shed board above the site-office entrance.
