The owner of Boba Blizz lives in the USA and wanted his logo as a lit 3D sign, with the letters stepping out of a black box. We made it in our Pune workshop: 15 mm acrylic letters set into a glossy black acrylic box, lit from inside, with a power supply that works on Indian and US mains. We packed it for the long trip and handed it to his relative in Pune, who carried it to the US.

A sign that has to travel to another country needs more thought than one we fix down the road. Boba Blizz wanted its logo, BOBA bLIZZ with two green leaves over the b, to look three-dimensional by day and glow at night. The board had to arrive in one piece, and it had to work on American mains as well as Indian, because we would test it here and the client would plug it in there. We did not ship it: the client’s relative collected it from us in Pune.
The box is glossy black acrylic, about 3 ft wide and 18 in high. Its face is stencil-cut in the shape of each letter and both leaves, and an acrylic plate is pasted behind every cut from inside the box.
The letters are laser-cut from 15 mm thick acrylic. About 3 mm of each letter sits in the face, so roughly 12 mm stands proud of the black. By day the white letters read as raised 3D shapes on a glossy black box; at night the LEDs inside the box light every letter, and the two leaves glow green.
The LEDs and the power supply are hidden inside the box. One wire comes out: plug it in and the whole sign lights up. We chose a power supply that works on both Indian and US mains.
We switched it on and checked it in our workshop, packed it so it would survive the journey and handed it over to the client’s relative in Pune, who took it to the USA.
