Gold Acrylic Logo Board for ISKCON Pune, BCEC
How much presence can you really pack into three feet of acrylic? Turns out, quite a lot.
When ISKCON’s Pune BCEC centre got in touch, the brief looked simple on paper: one logo board, 3 feet by 3 feet. In print-shop terms, that’s a small job. But the moment I actually looked at their logo, I realised “small” and “simple” were about to go their separate ways.
The ISKCON mark isn’t a clean, blocky logo you can stamp out and walk away from. It’s a double lotus — layers of petals, each with fine internal linework — sitting above a wordmark with a registered trademark symbol and a second line of smaller text underneath (“PUNE, BCEC”). That’s a lot of detail to ask of a board barely a metre across. Shrink a busy design down carelessly and you don’t get elegant, you get mush. And this wasn’t going on the wall of just any office. It’s a temple’s identity. It had to feel considered, not squeezed in.
So we didn’t simplify the logo. We just made every line of it out of gold.
Our answer wasn’t to dumb the design down — it was to give every single line of it room to actually shine, literally. We laser-cut the entire logo, lotus and lettering both, out of mirror-finish gold acrylic, and set it against a base plate of solid black acrylic. Black and gold do a lot of heavy lifting on their own; put genuinely fine, precise linework in that combination and even a small board reads as premium from across a room.
Then we asked the obvious next question: what happens after dark? A logo board in a place that hosts evening functions can’t go quiet just because the sun does. So we tucked LED strips underneath every single cut-out piece — every petal, every letter — so the whole board glows evenly from within once the lights go on.
Getting the Detailing Right — The Actual Making of It
- Laser-cut the gold mirror-finish acrylic to the exact outline of the lotus petals and every letter — including the smaller “PUNE, BCEC” line, which is where most of the real precision work went.
- Prepare the black acrylic base plate that the gold elements would sit on — thick enough to take the embedding without warping, dark enough that the gold has something to actually pop against.
- Fit LED modules underneath each individual cut piece before embedding — not one strip lighting the whole board from one side, but light hidden behind every petal and letter so the glow comes through evenly.
- Embed the gold elements into the black base, and test the board both ways — lights off in daylight, and lights on in the dark.
The hero shot up top is the same board in daylight — both photos taken right here at our workshop before dispatch. We haven’t got a picture of it up on ISKCON’s wall yet, but we’ll add one the day we do.

Closing Note
It’s a small board. It won’t be the biggest thing we make this month, or even this week. But there’s a particular kind of satisfaction in getting a small job exactly right for a client who was trusting us to represent something that matters to them — and that’s true whether the board is 3 feet or 30.
