A 3 x 3 ft board with a whole lotus to fit in
When ISKCON's Pune BCEC centre called, the brief fitted on a sticky note: one logo board, 3 feet by 3 feet. In print-shop terms, that's a small job.
Then I opened their logo file, and “small” and “simple” politely went their separate ways.

The problem
Why tiny lotuses are tricky
The ISKCON mark isn't a chunky logo you can stamp out before lunch. It's a double lotus: petals inside petals, each with fine inner lines, sitting over the ISKCON wordmark, a tiny ® and a second line, PUNE, BCEC, in even smaller letters.

Shrink a design like that carelessly and you don't get elegant. You get gold spaghetti. And this wasn't a sign for any office corridor. It's a temple's identity, so it had to look considered, not squeezed in.

The registered mark is part of the logo, so it got cut too. No shortcuts.

A logo board gets read from a few steps away. Every edge has to survive a close look.
Our answer
Don't simplify the logo. Make every line of it gold.
So we left the logo alone and changed the material instead. Our laser cut the whole thing, lotus and lettering, from gold acrylic with a mirror finish, and we embedded it in a base plate of solid black acrylic.
Black and gold do a lot of heavy lifting on their own. Add fine, precise linework and even a small board holds its own from across a hall.

Shiny, glossy and very hard to walk past. It arrives looking like this, under a protective film, and the lotus, letters and border were all cut from it.

Deep, glossy black that makes the gold pop. We used a sheet thick enough to take the gold embedded in it.
The after-dark question
What happens when the sun goes down?
A temple hosts evening programmes. A logo board that goes quiet at sunset is only doing half its job.
So we hid LEDs under every cut-out piece. Not one strip lighting the board from the side, but light tucked behind every petal, every letter and the border, so the whole logo glows evenly once the lights go on.
Same board, two personalities: polished by day, quietly glowing by night.
How we made it
Four steps and a lot of patience

Cut the gold
Every petal and letter laser-cut from mirror-gold acrylic on our own machines, including the tiny PUNE, BCEC line, where most of the real precision work went.

Prepare the black base
A thick black acrylic base plate: sturdy enough to take the embedding without warping, dark enough for the gold to pop.

Hide the LEDs
LED modules fitted under each piece before embedding, so the glow comes through evenly instead of from one side.
4
Test it both ways
Lights off in daylight, lights on in the dark. It passed both, and only then did it leave the workshop.

This is the PUNE, BCEC line. Small letters, clean edges, each one set into the black base. It's the part nobody notices when it's done right, which is exactly the point.

The happy ending
Small board, big satisfaction
It won't be the biggest thing we make this month, or even this week. But there's a special kind of satisfaction in getting a small job exactly right for a client who trusted us with something that matters to them.
Whether the board is 3 feet or 30.
One more thing about that ₹18,000. Installation is normally quoted separately, but this was a mandir job, and the trustees asked if we could waive the installation charge. We were happy to, so their price covered the board and its installation.
