Case study · Toy Planet, Kalyani Nagar
It started with a walk down MG Road
Mr. Hamza, who owns Toy Planet, was walking down MG Road one day when a shop board stopped him: the Pebbles sign we had made. He knew Sagar Shah of Pebbles, so he walked in and asked who had made such a board.
Sagar gave him our name. A few days later Mr. Hamza walked into our shop with his toy store's brand on his phone, and this is what we built for him.
The client
Toy Planet, a toy store in Kalyani Nagar, Pune
The fascia
Two faces round a corner: 14.5 x 3.8 ft and 10.5 x 3.8 ft
The lights
About 800 LED modules across both faces
Start to switch-on
About 15 to 20 days
The brief
A blue corner, waiting for a galaxy
Toy Planet sits on a street corner, so its fascia wraps around two sides. The blue ACP was put up by Mr. Hamza's own vendor. Before that went up, we gave him the dimension files for the whole frontage and guided him on how to get it done.
His brand designer had made a space-themed identity: a smiling rainbow planet, a rocket, an astronaut, a UFO. He wanted all of it on the shop front, bright and fun, so children and parents notice it from both roads.
Planning
One design, two different faces
The two faces aren't the same size: 174 x 45.6 in over the entrance and 126 x 45.6 in around the corner. The client's design was drawn for neither, so we re-arranged it for each face, keeping his artwork exactly as it was.
Each face got its own TOY PLANET logo (77.6 in wide on the big face, 65.6 in on the small one), the name टॉय प्लॅनेट in Marathi and its own set of shapes.
The big idea
A logo in two lit levels
Most lit logos are one box: a face, sides, LEDs inside. The TOY PLANET logo is two, stacked.
The first level is a logo plate cut to the shape of the planet, its face printed with the artwork and lit from inside. The TOY PLANET letters sit on top as a second level, each one a lit acrylic box of its own. If you've seen our two-tier sign for Jayashree, it's the same idea, built differently.
Up close
Plate first, letters on top
Here you can see both levels: the printed planet plate with its thick white sides, and the orange letters standing proud of it.
Each level is about 2.5 in deep, so from the street the logo has real depth, and after dark the light comes out of the sides too, not just the face.
In our workshop
Built piece by piece
Everything was printed, laser-cut, assembled and lit in our workshop before it went anywhere near the shop.
Stills from our own workshop video, February 2025.
Counting the lights
About 800 LEDs, planned one by one
Before we lit anything, we counted. Every letter and every shape got its own number of LED modules: 326 on the small face and 481 on the big one.
The letters have warm white LEDs, so TOY PLANET glows a little golden. The plate and the shapes have white ones, so the colours of the print stay true.
Our LED sheet
Every number, written down
Our count for this job, letter by letter and shape by shape, with the totals for each face. It decides how many power supplies a board needs.
The collage
An astronaut, a boat, a UFO, a xylophone and clouds
Around each logo we fixed a collage of shapes from the brand: an astronaut, a boat, a UFO, a rainbow xylophone and clouds. They're built just like the logo plate: a laser-cut acrylic face, deep white acrylic sides and LEDs inside.
Wherever the artwork has pictures or shading, we printed it on backlit vinyl on our own UV print-and-cut machine and pasted it on the acrylic. Where the artwork is one flat colour, the face is coloured acrylic, laser-cut to shape, with no print at all.
Cut to size
Every letter, measured in inches
Before the laser cutter starts, every letter and shape gets its size. On the big face the letters of TOY are 13, 10 and 13 in tall and PLANET is 10 in; on the small face, 11, 8.5 and 11 in, and 8 in.
The shapes run from 10 in to 22 in across. Same design, two sizes, so both faces look like one family.
Before it leaves the workshop
Laid out, pasted, checked
Every piece is laid out and checked on our workshop floor before it is closed up and lit.

On site
Drilled onto the ACP, wires out of sight
Our installation team fixed the pieces straight onto the client's ACP. No extra frame was needed on the front.
The ACP vendor's scaffolding was still up, so we worked from it:
1
Drill and fix
Each logo plate, letter and shape is drilled and screwed straight onto the ACP.
2
Wires to the back
The wires go through the ACP and run behind it, so nothing shows on the front.
3
Power behind the fascia
The power supplies sit out of sight behind the fascia.
Switch on
Two faces, one glowing corner
After dark the whole corner lights up: the logos, the Marathi name and every shape, from the face and from the sides.
Night photos: one of ours, one from Toy Planet’s own Google listing.
Where it began
The board on MG Road that sent him to us
This is the Pebbles board Mr. Hamza saw on MG Road: every letter in 3D, glowing above a clothing store.
The best advertising we have is still our own work, up on a busy street.
