Case study · Jayashree, Viman Nagar
A name Pune has known since 1971
Ask anyone who grew up in Pune about pav bhaji and the name Jayashree comes up sooner or later. The original outlet on Tilak Road has been feeding the city for decades.
So when Jayashree opened a big new outlet in Viman Nagar, about 5,000 sq ft with rich interiors, and asked us to make its signs, we took it personally. A name like that deserves more than a flat board.
The client
Jayashree, serving Pune since 1971
The fascia
20 x 4 ft, plus an 8 x 4 ft return panel
The English logo
About 7.5 ft wide, in two lit tiers
On site
3 days, after about 20 days of planning
The brief
One corner, two languages
The ACP fascia was already up, put up by another contractor. It isn't a flat strip: it runs 20 ft along the front and then turns the corner into an 8 x 4 ft panel at right angles, like an L.
The brief was bilingual: the name in English on the front and in Marathi round the corner, both lit. The client gave us ready artwork for both in CorelDRAW, so our job was the part we love: making it.
The big idea
What “two tiers” means
Most lit logo boards are one layer: a metal channel round the edge, a laser-cut acrylic face on the front, LEDs inside. Neat, bright, done.
The English Jayashree logo is two of those, stacked like the layers of a cake. The bottom tier glows, and the letters on top glow too. Look at it from the side and the letters stand out from the base like the sections of a telescope.
Tier one
A yellow channel, full of light
The base is a channel letter: aluminium sides, painted yellow, bent to follow every curve of the logo, and mounted on an ACP tray of exactly the same shape. The tray is packed with LED modules.
The face on top is two sheets of acrylic, each 3 mm: white, with green laid over it. The white and green bands you see around the letters are all inlaid acrylic, layer on layer. There's no vinyl anywhere on this board.
Tier two
Then the letters climb on top
On that face sit the white letters themselves, raised high off the base. Each is a hollow acrylic box letter with its own set of LEDs inside.
Two tiers means two sets of letters to cut, two sets of LEDs to wire and twice the alignment to get right. It's fiddly work, and it's exactly the kind of job our workshop enjoys.
Switch on
Face lit. Edges lit.
Here's the payoff. With both tiers glowing, the name reads cleanly from the front, and the raised edges shine when you see it from an angle.

The two-tier logo, explained
A minute and a half in our workshop with this very board: how the first tier is built, what the second tier adds, and how it looks lit.
Round the corner
The same name, in Marathi
On the 8 x 4 ft return panel, the Marathi name is about 7 ft wide. Here we kept it to a single tier: a channel letter in the same yellow, white and green, with LEDs packed inside.
We also made the lit Multi Cuisine Restaurant letters, the Since 1971 line and the green veg mark on the main fascia, and two more 45 x 30 in Marathi boards for a lollipop pole outside the restaurant.
Under the face
Hundreds of LEDs, in neat rows
Open a channel letter and this is what you find: rows of LED modules wired across the ACP tray, so the whole face glows evenly instead of in spots.
On this job we used Ares LED modules. Across the logos, the letters and the boards there were hundreds of them.
The part nobody sees
Why our boards don’t go dim
Here's something most people never ask about, and it decides how long a board lives: the power supply.
Plenty of boards are built with one power supply doing the work of two. Two things happen. The LEDs never get enough power, so the board looks dim from day one. And the supply, running flat out every night, gives up early.
A 400 W supply
We load it with about 300 W of LEDs, and never more than 350 W.
More LEDs, more supplies
When a board needs more power, we add another supply instead of pushing one harder. This board has four or five.
That margin is why our boards stay bright and the supplies last for years.
Three days on the scaffolding
Up on the fascia
Making the letters took 5-6 days. The whole job, from the first meeting through the planning to the last screw, took about 20 days. Installation itself took three.
The ACP contractor already had scaffolding up, so we worked from that. Our fitter Manoj and two colleagues fixed every piece by hand:
1
Base first
The base of each letter and logo is drilled and screwed onto the ACP.
2
Then the cap
The cap goes on over the base and is held by screws from the sides.
3
Wiring out of sight
All the wiring runs behind the ACP, so you never see a cable.
Spot the mistake
The “i” that got away
Look closely at the photos from installation day. The line under the logo reads “Multi Cusine”. There's an i missing.
The artwork came to us that way, and it slipped past everyone, me included. We cut it, lit it and fitted it just as it was drawn.
The client loved the board, with one small frown at that word. We offered to make it again straight away. He said he'd pay for the correction. We said no: a sign that carries our work should be right.
The board up at Viman Nagar today reads “Cuisine”. Here it is at dusk, lit, with every letter where it belongs.
And inside
A logo board on fluted glass
Our client had one more idea, for inside the restaurant. He had a fluted glass panel and wanted it used for a logo board. Acrylic boards we make every day. A board built on glass is another matter.
We printed the yellow and the green on the back of the glass, so from the front it has the glossy depth of back-painted glass. Then we raised the Marathi logo on top in 3D laser-cut acrylic, with LEDs inside every letter.
Up close
Raised letters on ribbed glass
The ribs of the fluted glass catch the light, and the raised letters sit proud of it.

Lighting the whole panel
A carpet of LEDs behind the glass
Lighting just the letters wasn't enough for him: he wanted the whole panel to glow. So behind the glass we laid a carpet of LED modules, edge to edge, and the entire board lights up yellow with the green logo glowing on top.
We don't have a photo of it in place inside the restaurant yet, but you can watch us build it in the video below.

The happy ending
A dinner I have promised to eat
Our client, Pruthviraj Bhosle, turned out to be my junior at Loyola School, by about ten years. Small world, and Pune is a small city.
He was thrilled with the boards, and he has invited me, with my family, to dinner at Jayashree more than once.
Now, I'm something of an old curmudgeon. I rarely eat out. But I have promised him that my wife Sapna and I will come. Pruthviraj, if you're reading this: I haven't forgotten. Please keep a plate of pav bhaji warm.
A name that has fed Pune since 1971 now glows in two languages, and in two tiers.

Planning a lit sign?
What a board like this costs
As a planning guide, our 3D LED sign boards page gives about ₹2,000 per sq ft + GST. It's indicative: a two-tier logo, the number of letters, the LEDs and the site all change the price, so custom boards like this one are priced in a free proposal.
