Safety Signs – Detailed Description
Factories, shop floors, office blocks, malls, hotels, theatres and housing societies are all places where many people gather, and where people gather, you need clear signs to guide them and keep them safe.
Safety signs warn people of hazards and tell them what precautions to take. In an emergency, a clear sign can save lives. Here are some common examples:
- Fire Evacuation Maps: show where you are in an unfamiliar building and the way to the nearest exit.
- Emergency Exit Signs: point people to the nearest exit. They can also be made as glow-in-the-dark (photoluminescent) exit signs that stay visible during a power cut.
- Restricted Area Boards: mark areas where entry is limited or not allowed.
- Assembly Point Boards: mark where people should gather in an emergency.
- Safety Equipment Signs: on factory shop floors, remind workers to wear hard hats, goggles, gloves and other safety gear near certain machinery.

Industrial safety signs need to enforce rules in a high-risk environment. The signs here talk about best work practices like wearing the correct gear before operating machinery. These signs also highlight accident-prone areas on the shop floor and construction signs:

The Safety Sign Colour Code
Safety signs around the world use a common colour code, so people understand a sign at a glance, even before they read it. International standards such as ISO 7010, and the ANSI system used in the USA, use broadly the same colours:
- Red: danger, prohibited actions and fire-fighting equipment.
- Yellow: caution, a warning of a hazard.
- Blue: mandatory instructions (wear gloves, wear goggles) and notices.
- Green: safe conditions, such as emergency exits, first aid and assembly points.
Most of the artworks above follow this colour code. Please also check any local rules (fire department, factory inspector or your society’s bye-laws) that apply to your building.
Order Your Safety Signs
We print the artwork above, or your own designs, in high resolution. Choose the material to suit where the sign will go:
- Regular signs (laminated vinyl on 5 mm sunboard): printed on waterproof vinyl, laminated for durability and mounted on a rigid 5 mm sunboard (PVC foam sheet). Supplied with double-sided tape behind for peel-and-stick fixing; they can also be drilled.
- Glow-in-the-dark signs: printed on photoluminescent media (often called radium) that charges under daylight or room lights and glows greenish in the dark, typically for 1-2 hours, with no electricity. Ideal for exits, staircases, fire equipment and evacuation maps. See our glow-in-the-dark prints and how night glow works.
- Reflective signs: printed on reflective vinyl that bounces vehicle headlights back to the driver, so the sign stands out at night. Ideal for parking areas, driveways, loading docks and roads. Choose glass-beaded, prismatic or 3M™ HIP reflective vinyl; read more about night reflective signs.
- Other forms: any of these can be mounted on 3 mm ACP (aluminium composite panel) for long outdoor life, or supplied as stickers in roll form. Signs on acrylic with stud-and-riser screws are made on request.

Signs that need no power. Glow-in-the-dark signs charge under light and then glow for 1-2 hours in complete darkness, which is exactly when you need an exit sign during a power cut. Available as stickers in roll form, on sunboard or on ACP. See our glow-in-the-dark prints.
How night-glow safety signs are made. The sign is printed on night-glow media with UV inks, which resist heat and scratches, then mounted on a rigid sheet with double-sided tape behind for easy peel-and-stick fixing.
A glow sign on acrylic. By day it looks like a normal sign; switch off the lights and it glows. This one is mounted on 5 mm acrylic and fixed to the wall with stud-and-riser (mirror cap) screws. Acrylic signs are made on request.
Fire Evacuation Maps
Fire evacuation maps are another big requirement that is fulfilled at Orchid Digitals. In fact, they are a mandatory requirement for many commercial buildings. FEM designs and layouts are generally provided by the clients’ architects. We then print these maps on vinyl and mount them on a 5 mm thick sunboard. The resulting poster can then be easily pasted or nailed to the walls at the customer’s location.
Swimming Pool Rules
Housing societies and even hotels need a sign listing rules for using their pool. To that effect we have designed a Pool Rules’ poster which you can freely download. It contains the standard instructions for the use of the swimming pool to ensure the safety of the swimmers. These include: No running, No Diving, No Pushing, No Rough Play, No Shouting, No Pets, No Bombing, No Food or Drinks and finally No Drugs or Alcohol.
The rules also mandate the use of the Shower, the Restroom and exhorts adults to watch over their children.
Most importantly the ‘Pool Rules’ sign board reserves the right to evict swimmers not following the above rules.

- Signs mounted on 5 mm sunboard or 3 mm ACP (aluminium composite panel). Sunboard signs come with double-sided tape behind; both can also be screwed or nailed to a wall, frame or pole.
The minimum order is ₹3,000 + GST, whether your signs are all the same or a mix of designs, sizes and materials. For example, about 31 regular 18 x 6 in signs (₹97.50 each) or 17 glow-in-the-dark signs (₹180 each) make up the minimum.

Online payments are accepted at Orchid Digitals. In fact we try to finish the entire job online. All you need to do is mail us your artwork/design file along with the requisite dimensions, material specifications, copies needed, etc.
After evaluating/understanding your project requirement we send across an estimate for the same. This estimate (in the form of a Proforma Invoice) will also contain an online paylink encoded in a QR code.

Yes. Delivery is free in Pune on orders of ₹3,000 + GST.
