Take any photograph, artwork or design you give us and turn it into an eye-catching light box that pulls people in. We print your artwork on a stretchable fabric and pull it as tight as a drum over a slim, bezel-less aluminium frame. The frame is packed with hundreds of LEDs that make the print shine brightly and evenly, from edge to edge. What’s more, you can change the print as often as you like to update the message on your wall.

What it is
A fabric light box is built from five main parts. Starting from the back, here they are:
1.A base panel that holds all the other parts together.
2.Bright LED strips fixed on the base panel.
3.A side frame made from a slim aluminium profile, with a notch running all along its front edge.
4.Your print, made of fabric, which covers the whole frame.
5.A silicone strip sewn along the edges of the print, which presses into the notch on the side frame.
The parts are simple, but the result is a glowing picture that shows off your products, your images or your brand in the classiest way. The box is flat and slim, and when you switch on the lights, it glows brightly enough to catch the eye of everyone who passes.
What's more, you invest in the frame only once. Whenever you want to update your message, you simply send us new artwork, and we print a new fabric skin for the same frame.
We reproduce your image in ultra-high resolution on our wide-format printers, so the colours come out vibrant and the details crisp. The print already looks beautiful in daylight.
Switch on the LEDs inside, and the whole picture shines out to grab your clients' attention instantly. That is why these light boxes are favourites in retail stores and shopping malls.
We build each box to the size you need, from a small 1 by 1.5 foot frame to a large, wall-filling 5 by 10 foot light box. If you need something even bigger, give us a call and we will build it for you.
This makes the fabric light box ideal for shops, showrooms, cafés, clinics and offices that want to show their products, services, brand or images in a classy, high-end way.
How it's built
There is nothing complicated inside our light box. The assembly is surprisingly simple, yet the result is stunning. Each of the five parts does one job, and together they keep the picture flat, bright and frameless. The drawing shows how the print locks into the frame.
The print on top of the frame is made of cloth. We use Senfa™ and Neo™ backlit fabrics, which are specialised, printable cotton-polyester blends. Their slightly silky, satiny finish reproduces your images in high resolution, with crisp details and vibrant colours.
The fabric also stretches a little. We pull it tight, like the skin on a tabla or the bed sheet in a well-made hotel room, so it sits perfectly flat in the frame. It is also very strong, so it does not tear even when we stretch it hard over the frame.
We print your design with UV inks on our wide-format printers from Mimaki™, at up to 1,200 dots per inch, so photographs, food shots and fine lettering stay sharp. The matte finish means you see no glare, even under bright shop lights.
When the print comes off our printer, it is just a loose cloth banner. Then we add our secret ingredient. Our tailor stitches a silicone strip, about 2 centimetres wide, along all four edges on the back of the print. This strip acts as a bead that presses into the notch on the front edge of the aluminium frame.
Press it in all the way round, and the fabric pulls as tight as the skin on a tabla. It stays flat, creaseless and wrinkle-free, with no sagging even on a box 10 feet wide.
The sides of the box are made from an aluminium profile. You can choose a 65 millimetre deep profile, which is our standard and looks sleeker, or a 90 millimetre profile for a deeper look. Both cost the same. The 90 millimetre profile is also stronger, so we recommend it for boxes larger than 4 by 6 feet.
Because the profile is extruded by machine, its edges are perfectly straight, flat and free of joints, which gives the box a clean, finished look. Look closely at the front edge, and you will see a notch running all the way round. This is where the silicone strip sewn onto your print goes.
Once the edge of the print sits in the notch, the fabric covers the metal almost completely. From the front, you see barely 1 to 1.5 millimetres of frame. That is why the box looks as classy as a high-end smartphone with no bezel.
We make the frame in silver anodised aluminium as standard. If you prefer black, we powder-coat it for you on request.
Lift the print off the frame, and you see the engine under the hood: a base panel covered with LED strips. Each strip is a long metal bar carrying a row of LED modules made specially for lighting fabric light boxes.
We normally use Ares™ LED modules. They are industrial-grade, use very little power and shine very brightly.
At Orchid Digitals, we never skimp on LEDs. Whether we build you a fabric light box or a 3D LED sign board, we pack in as many LEDs as the panel can take, so your sign glows brightly and evenly.
Some vendors save money by fitting fewer LED modules, which leaves their light boxes dull, patchy and uneven. We use high-grade industrial LED modules and fit as many as possible, so your finished light box shines like a beacon.
A UNI™ driver inside the box powers all the LED modules. A power cord runs out of the box and ends in a normal plug, which you push into any electrical socket.
Look closely at the wiring, and you will see how much care goes into the details. We never simply twist wires together. We solder every joint and then cover it with a black heat sleeve, which seals the connection and stops carbon from forming on it. So the chance of a wire breaking, losing contact or shorting out is practically nil.
We are very particular about this: we wire every lit sign we make, not just our fabric light boxes, in exactly the same way.

The best part
The box itself is a one-time investment that will serve you for years. Just like a photo frame, you can change the picture on top as often as you like. Because only its silicone edge holds the print in place, the print comes out of the notch as easily as it went in.
Whenever you launch a new menu, a sales offer, a new collection or a new season, you can refresh the message on your light box quickly and easily.
Buy the box once. Change the print whenever your story changes. A replacement print for a box bought from us costs ₹300 per square foot + GST, with no minimum order.
1
Lift the silicone edge out of the notch, starting at a corner. The frame and the LEDs stay exactly where they are.
2
We print it on fabric, sew a new silicone edge onto it and send it to you.
3
Push the silicone edge into the notch, corners first and then the sides. You need no tools and no special skill, and it takes only a few minutes.
4
Your new picture lights up evenly the moment the last edge is in.

We save every client's job in our job folders, often for years, so we keep the exact fabric size of your box on file. The next time you send us a design, we print it to fit your box perfectly.
You need no special skill to fit the new print: you simply push the silicone edge into the notch. That means we can ship a replacement print to you anywhere in India, and you can swap it yourself. In Pune, our fitter can also come and fit it for you on request.
Sizes
We do not stock fabric light boxes in fixed sizes. We custom-build each one to the width and height you give us. The smallest box we make is 1 by 1.5 feet. For anything smaller, our LED slimline frames (A4 to 4 by 2 feet, under 1 centimetre thick) are the better buy.
The largest size we make as standard is 5 by 10 feet. With special fabrication and longer frames, we can build even bigger boxes. Take a look at the two massive 8 by 8 foot fabric light boxes we fitted into the ceiling of Snowball ice cream parlour in Wakad, and you will see what we mean.
For a box larger than 5 by 10 feet, give us a call and we will quote it for you.
We make fabric light boxes only as squares and rectangles, because the aluminium profiles run in straight lines. For a round or shaped lit display, we make acrylic light boxes instead, like the round planet menu boards above the counter at Snowball.
Our standard box: slim and neat on a wall.
We light the print from behind, so you see it from the front. For a back-to-back display, we build two boxes and fix them back to back, each priced on its own.

Mounting and installation
Fitting the box on a wall is as simple as it gets. First, we fix the empty frame: the base panel with its LEDs and the aluminium side frame around it, without the fabric on top. We drill through the base panel and screw it straight onto your wall.
Then we press the print in on top, like a cover, and it hides every screw. For a very large box, we can add support brackets along the bottom edge, but nine times out of ten, the screws are all it needs.
The box is light, because the aluminium weighs little and the print is only cloth. A 4 by 3 foot box weighs just a few kilograms, so any normal brick or concrete wall can hold it, and you can often lift the frame with one hand.
In a ceiling, the box sits flush in a cut-out in the false ceiling, screwed to the ceiling framework. That is exactly how we fitted the two 8 by 8 foot boxes at Snowball, which replaced the ceiling lights over the counter and the seating.
We can also hang a box from the ceiling on chains, so people can see it from far away in a hall or a large store. We do not make freestanding boxes.
Power and light
Every box carries its own 12-volt UNI™ driver, fitted inside the frame. Wall boxes come with a cable for a regular 230-volt socket, and your electrician wires in ceiling boxes.
Each driver carries a load of about 400 watts. A bigger box has a larger surface, so it holds more LEDs and draws more power. When the LEDs in your box need 500 or 600 watts or more, we fit two or more drivers and share the load evenly between them, so no driver is ever overloaded.
We fit cool white LEDs, because they keep your printed colours true. We can fit warm white on request, but it tints the print, so we recommend cool white. LED strips also use a fraction of the power of the tube lights in an old flex box, and they run cool.
Your design
Some lit displays struggle with dark artwork. This one does not. Our wide-format UV printers bring out deep, crisp blacks without any greying, and skin tones come out exactly as the photographer intended. Whether your design has large dark areas, deep colours or bright ones, it looks eye-catching with the lights on or off.
And because we pack the LEDs tightly across the whole panel, the entire print lights up evenly. Send us the artwork you already have.

Our jobs
The box in most of the photos on this page is a 5 by 3 foot panel we built for Morning Owl™, a mattress brand, for its showroom. You can see it taking shape on our workshop floor: the LED strips first, then the print pressed in and lit.
The two 8 by 8 foot boxes at Snowball Natural & Pure Icecream in Wakad went into the ceiling. The architect wanted the universe to carry on overhead instead of ordinary ceiling lights, so we printed his planets and ice creams on stretch fabric, built two boxes, lit each one on our floor first and then set them into the ceiling.
We explain the whole construction step by step in our fabric light box guide, and the short video shows the fabric light box we made for the Chinmaya Mission temple.

Design files
Design your artwork at the finished size of the box face, and add 25 millimetres of bleed on every side. We sew that band into the silicone edge and fold it into the notch, so keep anything important out of it. Keep text and logos at least 50 millimetres in from the edge.
A big backlit print shows everything, so send us large, sharp originals, and vector files for logos and lettering.
25 millimetres on all four sides. A 4 by 3 foot box needs a file of 1,269 by 964 millimetres.
Send photographs at 100 to 150 dots per inch at full size, and logos and text as vector files (AI, CDR, EPS, SVG or PDF).

FAQs
It is a light box whose face is a printed stretch fabric instead of a flex sheet or an acrylic panel. A silicone strip sewn along the edges of the fabric presses into a notch in a slim aluminium frame, and LED strips on the base panel light the print evenly. People also call it a backlit fabric frame, a fabric backlit panel, an SEG (silicone edge graphic) light box or a tension fabric light box.
₹850 per square foot + 18% GST, complete with the frame, LEDs, driver and printed fabric. A 4 by 3 foot box costs ₹10,200 + GST. Use the calculator for your size. Our minimum order is ₹3,000 + GST.
Yes. Pull the silicone edge out of the notch and press the new print in by hand; it takes a few minutes. The box, the LEDs and the wiring stay where they are. A replacement print costs ₹300 per square foot + GST and has no minimum order for boxes bought from us.
No. We make replacement prints only for boxes we have built. The frame, the beading and the notch it fits into vary from vendor to vendor and are outside our control, so we do not take on other suppliers' half-finished jobs.
We make any width and height from 1 by 1.5 feet to 5 by 10 feet, in squares and rectangles only. We build bigger boxes (our largest so far is 8 by 8 feet) with special frames and quote them on request. For very small lit displays, see our LED slimline frames.
The standard depth is 65 millimetres, or 90 millimetres if you prefer, at the same price. From the front, the fabric covers the frame almost completely: you see only 1 to 1.5 millimetres of metal.
Yes. A 12-volt UNI™ driver sits inside the box. Wall boxes come with a cable for a normal socket, and your electrician wires in ceiling boxes.
Yes. The box sits flush in a cut-out in the false ceiling, fixed to the ceiling framework. Your ceiling contractor leaves the opening and the framework, and we fit the box. The two 8 by 8 foot boxes at Snowball are ceiling boxes.
We make fabric light boxes for indoor walls and ceilings. On request, we can build one for a sheltered spot (under a canopy or inside a mall front) with weather-rated LEDs and a sealed back, but never for a facade exposed to rain. For outdoor shop fronts, see our backlit flex boards and 3D LED sign boards.
In Pune, yes: we charge installation extra and quote it after we have seen the site. Outside Pune, we supply the box with fixing instructions, and your contractor fits it.
Boxes up to about 4 feet travel assembled. We ship larger ones knocked down (frame sections, LED panel and the folded fabric), and your team assembles them on site with our video. We charge shipping outside Pune extra and tell you the cost before dispatch.
We give six months on the LEDs and the driver from installation, as on our other lit signs. The printed fabric, being a print, carries no warranty.
Typically 7 to 10 working days after you approve the artwork and pay, and longer for very large boxes. Our team confirms the timing with your quote. This is a typical time, not a promised date.
Yes. Full dark areas, deep colours and bright ones all come out well, because the LEDs cover the whole panel and the fabric spreads the light evenly.
You get silver anodised aluminium unless you ask for black, which we powder-coat on request.
We prepare your file for printing and send you a proof, but we don't design artwork from scratch. We can recommend good designers in Pune.
