The director of ICMR-NIV, the National Institute of Virology in Pune, wanted his institute’s logo on the blank wooden panel behind his chair, so it shows on every online meeting. We laser-cut NIV and the icmr wordmark from acrylic, printed the fine text, assembled it all on a white acrylic base plate and fixed it in his cabin, then made matching boards for the boardroom and the hall. A simple job, and a proud one: NIV is one of the country’s foremost research institutes.

NIV is the ICMR institute in Pune that isolated the virus strain behind Covaxin, India’s first home-grown COVID-19 vaccine. Its director invited us to his cabin and showed us the problem: when he joined meetings online, the wooden panel behind his chair looked blank. He wanted the NIV logo there, in every call.
For the cabin we made a 3 ft x 2 ft board. NIV, the icmr wordmark, the orange line and the institute’s name were laser-cut from acrylic and raised off a white acrylic base plate. The fine text, such as the ring of lettering around the ICMR seal, is printed flat (2D): far too fine to cut letter by letter.
The board was drill-fitted with steel studs on the wooden panel right behind the director’s chair, where the camera sees it.
The boardroom and the hall got matching boards, 4 ft x 2.5 ft each, in the same materials, with the seal, the icmr wordmark and NIV side by side on one line: one board on each side of the door, and one on each side of the projector screen.
The job itself was straightforward. Being shortlisted and chosen to serve one of the country’s most important research institutes, the ICMR institute that isolated the virus strain behind Covaxin, is the part our team will remember.
