A Vending Machine Wrap, Not a Sticker: Polymeric Vinyl for Canebot

A sugarcane juice robot with artwork on all four sides, printed so it looks painted on, not stuck on.

Case study · Canebot

A juice machine that deserved a better coat

Canebot is a sugarcane juice vending machine, built in India by Mr Milind Datar and his team. It cuts and squeezes fresh cane on order, serves the juice, then cleans itself for the next glass. The innovation even earned Canebot the President's Award for Innovation in Business.

Canebot's machines are headed for malls, cinemas, schools and colleges: anywhere people stop for a fresh drink.

This is Canebot's own short video of a machine at the Pavillion mall in Pune.

Cane in, juice out, and the machine cleans itself before the next customer.

The problem

Ordinary vinyl looked stuck on

Canebot designed artwork for all four sides of the machine: the brand colours, the logo and what the machine does. Painting it one plain colour was never the plan.

But every vendor Mr Datar tried offered ordinary vinyl, and on the metal panels it looked like what it was: a label stuck on a box.

It looked like a label

You could see where the print ended, so the artwork never felt part of the machine.

Machines get wiped all day

In a busy mall, staff clean the panels again and again. The print has to take it.

Bubbles and creases

Big panels trap air under the vinyl unless it has somewhere to escape.

Corners that lift

A weak adhesive lets edges and corners peel up over time.

Our answer

Wyte polymeric vinyl, laminated

Three things about this vinyl made it right for the job:

You can’t tell where the print ends and the machine begins. It’s a wrap, just on a vending machine instead of a car.

1

Outdoor-grade and weatherproof

It holds up to crowds and to staff wiping the machine down, wash after wash.

2

Tiny air-release channels

Small channels on the back let trapped air escape, so the vinyl goes on with no bubbles, wrinkles or creases.

3

A strong adhesive

Once it is down it is very hard to peel, so corners and edges stay put.

The result

Where does the print end?

We supplied the print in a roll, and Canebot's team pasted it on the machine panel by panel.

The vinyl sits so close to the metal that the machine looks painted in its brand colours.
